Kiosks are a great tool for collecting feedback and will increase response rates by 30-40%.

Depending on your needs, Loop supports multiple ways to manage kiosks through the following:

  1. Fully Managed Devices - for managing multiple devices with stable and secure network connections

  2. Self Managed Devices - for managing multiple devices with network requirements limitations

  3. Offline Mode - for remote areas with limited network connection

This article helps identify what Loop service is right for your organization.

Fully Managed Devices

Loop uses a MDM platform to supervise devices to provide a more hands-off experience which includes the following capabilities to limit kiosk tablet interruptions:

  • Software Update Delay Management

  • App Lock to lock the device in survey mode

  • App Block (except for Loop Pulse and Settings) to prevent misuse of kiosk

  • Rebooting Device

  • No connection and low power kiosk alerts

Note: we are unable to provide Screen View or Remote Access due to Apple privacy settings. Fully managed also requires user to manually update any App & IOS Software from time to time.

In order to successfully deploy managed the following network capabilities are mandatory:

  • Automatic network connection: if network connection fails, it will automatically reconnect without passcode requirements.

  • Back-up network connection: data plan or ethernet to use as a backup if the network looses power

  • Private and secure network: able to join a private (not public) network connection to ensure no high-usage times that slows down the network speed or looses connection easily.

  • Power: ensure that the kiosk is always connected to an outlet.

Self Managed Devices

Manage your own devices without using our MDM is great if you have the following use cases:

  • Public network connection: connection could be too slow to operate through MDM

  • Network & Password expiry: When there are network login time-out or WIFI certificate expiry, a manual reconnection is required to reboot the tablet and access the Loop survey

  • Non-automatic network connection: unable to automatically connect to the network upon failure

  • Unstable power: unable to connect a kiosk with power 24/7

Manage your own devices by using your guide provided by your Customer Success Manager during onboarding. A high-level overview for setting up Self-Managed kiosk is the following:

  • Create an Apple ID

  • Download Loop Pulse App

  • In Settings:

    • Turn off automatic IOS downloads and installations

    • Create Guided Access for security

    • Remove all stock Apps from Home screen & Display

    • Turn off all camera access

Offline Mode

If you are in a remote location with limited access to network, our offline capabilities allow you to collect feedback without being connected to the network.

Once you are connected to the internet, all your responses collected will be uploaded with similar time stamps to when it rejoined the network.

Please note the following:

A Network connection is required to upload the survey for initial use.

Every 24 hours, the survey will try to refresh itself, which involves loading about a single html file of about 500kb. The first load will also contain 3 font files of about 15kb each.

Every survey completion will submit a http call between 1kb and 10kb (depending on amount of questions, length of comment, etc). If that fails, the response will be locally stored and submitted again a few minutes later.

Loop has a default connection timeout of 60 seconds, after which a connection failure occurs. This does not affect the kiosk working state or integrity of the stored responses.

If you have any questions regarding the following kiosk services, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager or success@benbria.com.
